Photo Contest Rules
ENTRY INSTRUCTIONS
1. Please enter the contest by submitting your original photograph electronically at photos@schoonerdays.com.
Entrants must include name, address, email address and telephone number. Photos must have a caption. No other method of entry will be accepted. We will not accept photographs submitted through the mail.
2. You may submit up to five (5)photographs; however, you must complete a separate on-line submission form for each photograph you wish to enter. The image may originate in a non-digital format (such as high quality film slides, negatives or prints scanned into a digital format) so long as it is submitted electronically. Entries must be submitted in JPEG format (as .jpg files) and should be at least 1MB but shall not exceed 5MB. You must submit the actual image file, not a link or other type of file. If an image file is not readable, the entry will be disqualified. . Image manipulation shall be limited to cropping and minor color and contrast adjustments. No photo montages or composite images will be accepted. Ports Events in its sole judgment shall determine whether a photograph
meets these requirements for entry into the contest. Electronic files submitted to Ports Events will not be returned and may be retained by Ports Events after the completion of the contest. There is no entry fee and no person may win more than one prize. The contest is open to any amateur photographer except employees of prize sponsoring companies, judges, and their immediate families. Only the photographer has the right to submit a photograph, and by submitting it online, represents that he or she alone has taken the photograph.
3. Entries may be color or black-and-white images To be eligible, a photograph must have been taken between October 16, 2009, 6am through October 18, 2009 at 8pm.
4. By submitting the online form, the photographer grants PortsEvents and Schooner Days the right to publish the photographer's winning entry along with the photographer's name in any publication for editorial purposes. The photographer will not receive further compensation for such publication. Winners also agree that without further payment, their winning photograph entry may be used in print or electronic form to promote future photo contests PortsEvents and Schooner Days. It is the responsibility of the contestant to ensure that publication of the photographs by PortsEvents raises no legal claims. The photographer must own all rights to any photographs entered in this contest.
5. The names of the winners, and as many of their photographs as space permits, are scheduled to be published online at www/schoonerdays.com by December 20, 2009. Before being awarded a prize, each winning photographer will be required to sign an agreement declaring that: (a) he or she doesn't sell photographs or charge a fee for taking pictures; (b) the photograph submitted is his or her original work; (c) the photograph was taken at the location specified on the entry email.
JUDGING
Photos will be judged on how well they represent the spirit of Portsmouth’s Maritime Heritage. Artistic merit, composition, originality, and creativity will also be considered. Judging will be done by a panel made up of members of the Schooner Days Committee. The decisions of the judges are final. Winners will be notified by telephone or e-mail. By submitting the online entry form, the photographer consents to the entry of his or her submission and agrees to abide by the contest rules.
2009 Schooner Days Schooner Days is a great opportunity to capture some wonderful photos of the schooner fleet with Olde Towne in the background.
Photo Contest
Don't forget you can take an Elizabeth River cruise with The Spirit of Indepedence to see the schooner up close. Thse 45 min. cruises will be offered every hour. The cost is $12.00 per person.
